Moving Averages:

Using Moving Averages the Way the Big Dogs Do

When the following conditions have been met, execute buy or sell trades: a) the moving average line starts going in the same direction as price; b) buy when the closing price closes above the MA; sell when it closes below the MA.

The most popular MA for intermediate movements is the 50-day, and the most popular MA for longer-term movements is the 200-day.

Use the longer-term MA to monitor that the trend is intact; when the trend starts to reverse, focus more on the 50-day, as it reacts better to reversal situations. When price is trending nicely, use the 50-day to execute trades by entering a buy when price crosses above the MA, and entering a sell when price goes the other way.

Golden Cross/Death Cross: A buy signal is issued when the shorter-term moving average crosses above the longer-term moving average (Golden Cross). A sell signal is generated when the shorter-term moving average crosses below the longer-term moving average (Death Cross).
