It goes like this … You buy highly liquid stock (that pays dividends, has low implied volatility, and has LEAP options) in multiples of 100 shares, while at the same time purchasing an in-the-money put for each of those 100 shares. This is because the put serves as an insurance policy or position hedge, and you want to pay as little time value as possible for this protection. In-the-money options have the least time value – as opposed to at-the-money and out-of-the-money options.

Risk is minimized through the dividends, which amortize the time value – paid for when you enter the position.
